Midsummer City: Karachi

This short music video is a loving portrait of my hometown in Karachi.

Karachi through the global eye is one of the unsafest places for women to live, and one of the cities with the highest rates of violent crimes. Karachi for its citizens is hot and dry, with a sharply juxtaposed income divide in its poorly planned streets.

Yet, even as I see everything listed above, I still stumble into beauty here, again and again. I find it in the summery year-round flowers, the fireworks on the holy prophet's birthday, the bustle of the bazaars and the joyrides by the beaches.

I think Karachi is why nothing holds me down for too long- it's a city where you fight against setbacks over and over, everyday. It has forged us into soldiers we did not want to be, which is both painful and powerful.
